New Mario Kart title in development

Let’s admit it. We’ve all played a fair few hours of Mario Kart 8, whether it be from it’s tenure on the Nintendo Wii-U to it’s rebirth as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch. The game is 8 years old this year and is still pulling in the crowds as a stand alone title and a main stage bundled game for first time Switch buyers.

It’s safe to say that Mario Kart 8 has had it’s more than it’s fair share of shelf life and doesn’t look to be attracting any kind of DLC in the near future. So, when perusing the internet on a Sunday afternoon, I was delighted to see the news that a possible Mario Kart 9 was in active Development.

According to IGN, Tokyo-based industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto is quoted as saying “I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development,”

This could mean we may see new characters in the Nintendo Universe as well as new tracks and Karts. BUT…..as with all Mario Kart releases, there must be a be twist. From the Anti Grav parts of Mario 8, the gliders of Mario Kart 7 and the double riders for Mario Kart Double Dash on the Game Cube. There could be endless possibilities to this possible twist, but as of yet, the details on the game are rather sketchy so you never know, we could be having to race using the power of our hopes and dreams, but who knows.

It would be great to see some more multi player party play within the game, whether it be local or online. You never know, it might extend the new game’s shelf life for another 10 years until we see a Marion Kart 10.

There will be more on this from iReek when more is released, so stay tuned Kart fans!
