The shockwaves of Wrestlemania 31 will be felt for up to 1 year, the card on paper wasn’t as exciting as the show, the fans in the Levi Stadium got and watching at home got to see some shocks during the night.
WWE Tag-Team Championship – The Usos vs. Los Matadores vs. The New Day vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
Winner – Tyson Kidd and Cesaro
The highlight of the match was Nattie putting El Torito in the sharpshooter, cementing her journey into heel status. This could be the career boost that she has needed and could place her in the Divas title picture.
Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Winner – Big Show
The winner to me is irrelevant, the highlights was Damien Mizdow splitting from The Miz and Axelmania being crowd surfed out of the ring. I was hoping to see Hideo Itami hit the GTS in the ring, but it was done on friday 27 March NXT taping.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match
– Bad News Barrett (c) vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose vs. R-Truth vs. Stardust vs. Luke Harper
Winner – Daniel Bryan
This was all action from the moment Dean Ambrose arrived in the ring, the first 4 minutes had every contender flying out of the ring onto each other and each WWE Star proving why they should be there. Daniel Bryan winning the belt provided a “YES” chant throughout the stadium. Hopefully we should see a program of matches with Ambrose, Bryan and Ziggler which should culminate in a great triple threat match at SummerSlam.
Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton
Winner – Randy Orton
The Viper and The Future got to battle it out with great intensity in this which saw a curb stomp by rollins back fire and for him to be launched in the air and caught in the RKO. Seth Rollins got his moment later that night, but where does that leave the Viper?
Sting vs. Triple H
Winner – Triple H
They threw the kitchen sink at this match and a shed load of money. The entrances alone would have paid for a Diva’s salary for the year. The match was well paced and allowed the WWE audience to see Sting in his prime, even at the age of 50. The introduction of the NWO and D-Generation X created an amazing Wrestlemania moment with both teams, but the outcome was unexpected and I hope the beginning of a chapter for Sting, not the end.
The Bella Twins vs. AJ Lee & Paige
Winner – AJ Lee and Paige
The Divas were given a chance and they took it, Paige and AJ were given enough time to fight the Bellas. This match flourished and allowed both teams to show off their wrestling skills, we can only hope the writing team keeps up the momentum and gives the Divas some great storylines in the future.
WWE United States Championship
– Rusev (c) vs. John Cena
Winner – John Cena (c)
The outright favourite to win this match was John Cena and he wasn’t going to disappoint the fans. This match was a standard Cena formula with a patriotic theme, the only little interesting point was seeing Lana smile when Cena won the title, could she defect from Rusev to Cena, or is it time for her to fade away?
In-Ring Segment: Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, The Rock & Ronda Rousey
Winner – the Fans
The set up for Wrestlemania 32 started here, this was a wrestlemania moment. I had never heard of Ronda Rousey until tonight and now I am checking out her fights on YouTube. Seeing the Rock and Ronda square up to Hunter and Steph was a moment in time, the intensity in Ronda’s stare beat out any vicious jack jawing that Steph could muster. Will we see a match between the 2 in 2015? I hope so and I would like to see Steph put flat on her ass. Triple H and The Rock teased a Wrestlemania match late in 2014, could 2016 be the year it happens, or will it be SummerSlam 2015 and then the Rock can go head to head with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 32.
Bray Wyatt vs. The Undertaker
Winner – The Undertaker
The anticipation to see the Undertaker after a year’s absence was intense and Bray Wyatt is the perfect foil for the Undertaker to return to the ring and Wrestlmania. The match had all the “Old School” trademarks that the Undertaker is known for and Bray Wyatt is such a visual character that he can help tell the story just with a look. This match was a great introduction to the Undertaker who is now 22-1, next year could be his last match and this is the only chance to have Sting v The Undertaker before he enters the Hall of Fame.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
– Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns
Winner – Seth Rollins!?!
The main event delivered something new, the Money in the Bank being cashed in and winning the title on the grandest stage of them all. Roman Reigns did the impossible and took on Lesnar and made him bleed, but Lesnar fend him off and nearly had the win before being hit with 3 Superman punches and a spear before he was flat on his back. The arrival of Seth Rollins added mystery to the finish and then the curb stomps on Lesnar and the nail in the coffin on Roman Reigns gave Seth Rollins his first Wrestlemania title win.
As i said at the beginning of the post, this Wrestlemania on paper was looking flimsy but the overall Supercard was quite good. The matches were well paced and none of them sucked, apart from Big Show winning the battle royal. Now all eyes are on the Raw after Wrestlemania to see who steps up and challenges Seth Rollins for the title, where does this leave Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns? Will they being the Stardust & Goldust feud? When will Ronda Rousey beat the hell out of Steph? Will Samoa Joe turn up in NXT sooner than later?
