Another year, another attempt to bring a video game franchise to the big screen. Again? Wait a minute didn’t we already have a Hitman film with that guy that played a villain in the terribly titled ‘Live Free or Die Hard’?
Well apparently one wasn’t enough and so we get a reboot or a re-imagining… or whatever.
The new Hitman trailer has hit the web and this version stars Rupert Friend and Zachary Quinto as Agent 47 and cop John Smith as they race through Europe running away from the ominous Organisation.
The new film plot hasn’t been fully released, but from the trailer we can gather that the antagonist are still the Organisation and Agent 47 is protecting a woman with the help of Zachary Quinto playing the cop role.
The games were popular in the 90s and also had a resurgent in 2012 with the release of Hitman Absolution which played like a slick Splinter Cell game but with more a sandbox environment rather than the usual linear games.
As far as trailers go it’s pretty slick and seems to capture the essence of what the games are about. I mean I don’t think it will break any action film-making boundaries but it looks like a fun ride.
Incidentally, Paul Walker was originally cast to play Agent 47 but due to his untimely death Rupert Friend now takes the lead role.
